Sustainable concepts for success in the marketplace
With increasingly stringent environmental and occupational safety regulations, ever more critical end consumers and growing awareness among investors, greater importance is being attached to environmental and social aspects of business as major quality criteria. Cognis is committed to performing across these criteria and has accrued a wealth of experience in this field going back a good 160 years. Cognis is one of the world's largest manufacturers of basic oleochemicals derived from renewable raw materials and, through this scale of operation, ranks as one of the world's largest suppliers of components and formulations for such sensitive segments as skin, hair and body care, adn health-aware nutrition.
Less energy consumption, lower emissions
Having implemented a number of changes in their production plants and investing in their facilities, Cognis has created a manufacturing capability able to meet all the demands of the marketplace. Production is environmentally compatible, safe, efficient and ensures the highest quality. Exceptional progress has been made particularly in saving energy and reducing emissions, with further initiatives in the pipeline.
REACH is coming and Cognis is ready
There can be little doubt that the planned introduction of Europe's new legislation on the regulation, evaluation and authorization of chemicals (REACH) is on its way. The modifications proposed by the two European bodies closely coincide and introduction of the new regulation is now scheduled for 2007. Cognis is embarking on an intensive process of preparing for the new requirements. The REACH Process Team - comprising representatives of various business units and the Product Safety and Regulations department - is coordinating the measures necessary to satisfy the upcoming regulations.
